I hear him fall. I smell copper, and my closed eyelids feel sticky.

“Margery!” yells my second-favorite voice.

“Ripley?” I whisper, and open my eyes.

She rushes to my side, sets me free. Like a child, I’m in her arms in an instant, trembling.

“Don’t go running off like that, okay? We were worried sick.”

“How did you find me?”

“I tried to think about where you were, in your head. What you needed, who you’d be missing.”

“Rip, I can’t believe he found me. What happened to him? Why do we travel, when we know what it does to people?”
